Awareness gives feedback

June 7, 2006 | 8:27 am

Today I was thinking of how important it is that we train ourselves to be sensitive to the feedback we get from our senses. I found out that I was trusting my eyes to much when we played bass two weeks ago at a place where the stage was in darkness. After that I decided to practice without looking at the fretboard at all. This way I have to trust the other senses, like hearing and feeling. If we want to learn and grow continually, we have to become aware of our own playing through all senses.

Children is living the life

June 6, 2006 | 2:19 pm

I have the privilege of having four children. Two of them are still living at home. They have affected my life as much as I have affected theirs. Children are living the life. They are curious, very spontaneous and sometimes irrational with wild fantazies. They often combine new things with each other, creating new words or new usages, because they have not categorized the environment as we have. When we grow up, we get conformed, we develop habits and we do the same things over and over. A little stick on the ground can develop into an exciting story. Ants crossing the pavement are marching on their way home and birds singing are really talking to you. My children have helped me to see and enjoy the small things of life.

Parametric equalizer

June 4, 2006 | 8:33 am

Yesterday night I used my new Behringer PEQ2200 Parametric Equalizer for the first time. I usually try to find the resonant frequencies of the auditorium and cancel them with the eq of my amp. With PEQ2200 I have even more possibilities to correct the sound. I found one resonant at 180 Hz. By compensating like this I can have higher overall volume without sounding “boomy”.
